Language Disorder Testing for Children & Adults
in Minnesota
Language difficulties can affect learning, relationships, self-advocacy, and everyday communication at any age. A thoughtful evaluation can clarify how a person understands and uses language and provide practical direction for school, work, and daily life.
Language Evaluations
Individualized testing examines how a person understands spoken language, expresses thoughts, accesses vocabulary, and communicates in context. The goal is to identify the person’s specific pattern, not rely on a single score.
- Understanding language
- Expressing ideas
- Vocabulary
- Social communication
Diagnostic Clarification
Language difficulties can overlap with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, trauma, hearing concerns, or differences in educational experience. Findings are integrated to clarify what is contributing to the difficulty.
- Autism
- ADHD
- Learning concerns
- Mental health

Understanding Language Disorders
A language disorder can affect understanding language, formulating sentences, finding words, organizing a narrative, or using language effectively in social situations. Difficulties may be present from childhood or become more noticeable as demands increase.
Language ability is not the same as intelligence. A person may have strong ideas and reasoning skills while struggling to understand complex directions or express exactly what they know.
Testing can clarify the pattern of strengths and difficulties and determine whether further speech-language, hearing, educational, or medical evaluation is appropriate.
What Testing May Include
Every language evaluation is individualized and may examine:
- Receptive language and understanding spoken information
- Expressive language and communicating ideas
- Receptive and expressive vocabulary
- Sentence formulation and word retrieval
- Narrative organization and verbal reasoning
- Social-pragmatic communication when indicated
- Reading, attention, executive functioning, or other relevant concerns
Signs Language Testing May Help
An evaluation may be useful when a child or adult:
- Frequently misunderstands questions or multi-step directions
- Has difficulty finding words or explaining ideas clearly
- Uses shorter or less complex language than expected
- Struggles to organize stories, explanations, or conversations
- Has difficulty understanding implied, figurative, or nuanced language
- Experiences academic, social, or workplace problems related to communication
- Needs diagnostic clarification or recommendations for support
Clear Results and Useful Recommendations
The goal is not simply to assign a diagnosis. It is to explain how the person processes and uses language, identify factors contributing to communication difficulty, recognize strengths, and guide next steps.
Results are explained in understandable language and connected to individualized recommendations for therapy, education, accommodations, communication strategies, or additional referral when appropriate.
Whether testing supports a language disorder, social-pragmatic communication difficulty, another condition, overlapping needs, or no diagnosis, you will receive an evidence-informed explanation of the findings.

create a profile picture for a 54-year old woman looking at her dog
Created—a warm, photorealistic square profile picture with both faces positioned clearly enough to remain visible when cropped into a circle.
Edit
make it look less like an ai generated photo
I made it less polished and staged, with more natural skin, hair and fur textures, ordinary home lighting, reduced background blur, and a slightly more casual phone-photo feel.

make the dog jumping up
Done—the dog is now excitedly jumping up with its paws against her while they look at one another.
