Autism & ADHD Testing for Children & Adults
in Minnesota
Clear answers can change how a person understands their entire life. Thoughtful, individualized evaluations help children, adults, and families understand patterns of attention, communication, sensory processing, regulation, and daily functioning.
Evaluations for Children
Child-centered evaluations integrate developmental history, caregiver observations, school information, and individualized testing. The process looks beyond behavior to understand the needs, strengths, and experiences underneath it.
- Caregiver input
- School functioning
- Development
- Adaptive skills
Evaluations for Adults
Adults often seek testing after years of masking, compensating, or receiving diagnoses that explain only part of their experience. Assessment considers both outward functioning and the effort required to maintain it.
- Masking
- Life history
- Executive function
- Diagnostic clarity

Why Comprehensive Testing Matters
Autism and ADHD can look different across people, ages, environments, and life stages. Some individuals show recognizable traits early; others compensate, imitate peers, or appear capable while experiencing significant internal strain.
Autism and ADHD frequently overlap with each other and with anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, language or learning differences, sleep concerns, and medical conditions.
A comprehensive evaluation replaces guesswork with a clearer explanation of strengths, needs, and useful support.
What an Evaluation May Explore
Every assessment is individualized and may include:
- Developmental, educational, occupational, and medical history
- Attention, activity level, impulse control, and executive functioning
- Social communication and relationship patterns
- Interests, flexibility, routines, and sensory experiences
- Emotional regulation and adaptive functioning
- Anxiety, mood, trauma, OCD, language, or learning concerns
- Standardized rating scales and individualized assessment measures
Signs an Evaluation May Help
Testing may be useful when a child or adult:
- Has persistent difficulty with attention, organization, time, or task completion
- Finds friendships, communication, or social expectations confusing or exhausting
- Relies heavily on routines or becomes distressed by unexpected change
- Experiences sensory overload, shutdowns, impulsivity, or emotional overwhelm
- Alternates between intense focus and difficulty initiating necessary tasks
- Functions very differently across home, school, work, or social settings
- Has needs not fully explained by previous diagnoses
Support Across the Lifespan
For children, caregivers are essential partners. You may be asked to share developmental history, school evaluations, IEP or 504 documents, previous reports, and observations from daily life. Testing is explained as activities that help us understand how the child’s brain works—not something they pass or fail.
For adults, the process honors lived experience and considers masking, compensation, burnout, relationship patterns, work demands, and the internal cost of appearing capable.
Feedback focuses on understanding rather than blame and includes recommendations for home, school, work, treatment, accommodations, and future planning.
