Private Pay Therapy

Therapy Designed Around You

At Therapy Dynamics, I believe therapy should be as individual as the person sitting in front of me. Many therapy clients choose to pay privately because it allows for greater flexibility, increased privacy, and treatment that isn’t limited by the requirements of an insurance company.

Often people are surprised to learn that, depending on their deductible and copay, private-pay therapy may cost about the same, or sometimes even less, than using their insurance.

Why Choose Private Pay?

Your Privacy Matters

Mental health is personal. When you use your health insurance, your insurance company requires a mental health diagnosis before they will pay for treatment. In some cases, they may also request treatment plans, progress updates, or other clinical information to determine whether they believe therapy should continue.

When you choose private pay, your therapy stays between you and your therapist. You have greater control over your personal information and how it is shared.

For many people—especially professionals, healthcare providers, first responders, business owners, educators, or anyone who simply values privacy—that added confidentiality provides peace of mind.

Therapy Without Insurance Restrictions

Insurance companies are designed to determine what services they will pay for. That means they often place limits on treatment, including:

  • Requiring a mental health diagnosis
  • Determining whether therapy is “medically necessary”
  • Limiting the number or frequency of sessions
  • Requesting updates to justify continued treatment
  • Requiring specific treatment approaches

Healing doesn’t always happen on a schedule, and people don’t always fit neatly into diagnostic categories.

Private pay allows us to focus on what you need, not what an insurance company requires.

A Truly Individualized Approach

No two people arrive in therapy with the same history, strengths, challenges, or goals.

Rather than following a predetermined treatment plan designed to satisfy insurance requirements, I tailor therapy to fit you. We can spend time understanding the bigger picture, exploring patterns, building skills, processing difficult experiences, or simply creating space to think and reflect.

Some clients come seeking treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship concerns. Others are trying to better understand themselves, navigate neurodivergence, improve communication, or work through life transitions. Not every concern requires a diagnosis, and not every person benefits from the same approach.

At Therapy Dynamics, therapy is collaborative. We move at a pace that makes sense for you.

You’re in Charge of Your Care

With private pay, decisions about your treatment are made by you and your therapist—not by an insurance company.

Together we decide:

  • How often to meet
  • Which therapeutic approaches fit your needs
  • When therapy should end
  • Whether additional assessment or support would be helpful

This allows therapy to evolve naturally as your needs change over time.

It May Cost Less Than You Think

Many people assume using insurance is always the least expensive option, but that isn’t always true.

If you have:

  • A high deductible
  • Large copays
  • Limited mental health benefits
  • Out-of-network coverage

your actual out-of-pocket costs may be very similar to private-pay therapy.

For some clients, paying directly provides greater value because they receive individualized care without insurance restrictions while spending about the same amount overall.

Is Private Pay Right for You?

There isn’t a single right answer. Some clients prefer to use their insurance, while others value the flexibility, privacy, and personalized care that private pay provides.

If you’re unsure which option makes the most financial sense, I’m happy to discuss fees, explain how private pay works, and help you compare your options so you can make the decision that feels right for you.

At Therapy Dynamics, my goal is simple: to provide thoughtful, individualized care that helps you build the life you want—whether you’re seeking therapy, answers, or a better understanding of yourself.
